Will I be risking the new pcb if there is a mechanical fault inside of the drive instead of just a dead pcb?

and if so, how would I know if it's a mechanical fault?


The hard drive I have will not power on whatsoever it's completely silent when hooked up to the psu.


At this point I would like to try to replace the pcb with a new one from a exact physical duplicate of this hd or at least the closest match I can get.


Here are the specs;

Model - WD6400AAKS-65A7B2

PCB: XW 7G11 B4XL 4








If theres any other info about the drive that I haven't placed here jus let me know.

I flipped the pcb just now and saw something of interest



There seems to be discoloration for the data contacts that go from the pcb to the internal components inside of the hd. The power connecter for the motor seems to be at a separate location on the pcb and those connections look fine.




Ya guys think if I get a q tip with rubbing alcohol and rub the contacts, maybe it might do something. This is a clients hd though so I'm a little bit more cautious then if it were mine.

Use rubber eraser on the contacts instead of RA.
