Hello,

I have the following problem with my external hard drive. It is a model 'My Passport Essential SE 750 GB USB 2.0/3.0'.

P/N: WXK1A80R6230T
Model: WDBACX7500ABK-00

Always it has worked correctly, but from yestardaya when I connect it to a PC or Laptop pops a message "WD BAD PCB USB Device" and "WD Ses USB Device", then request install the driver, but it doesn't recognition the Driver.

When I go to Windows Storage Disk Management, the device doesn't appear.

I have used the Victoria Software and the Device been showed and the follow information:

this message for sure (80-90% of cases), if you try Victoria, it will read capacity as 2TB (correct?)

and there is no DIY for such case

Hi,

Victoria shows the information that attachment. Do you say that this issue doesn't has fix?

I do not know why, but today is listed as unknown by 'Windows Storage Disk Management' in Windows 7, but not in XP Windows.

any other ideas to recover the data?

but here u go with options:

1- if dropped, then heads issue
2- ur case here FW issue if not dropped and needs Pro. help DIY will not fix it

There is MHDD script for translator regeneration. Not sure it will work on newer drives. I had similiar drive with someone else important data on it, so I didn't try to fix it.
In addition, Passport series have encrypting USB converter, so all data on the drive is scrambled. When you connect driive directly to PC SATA interface, even the drive is recognised you can't see your data, it will show random pattern except secor 0.
I suggest to connect it to PC SATA and see if drive is recognised correctly by BIOS (but don't allow to boot Windows). If so, try clone this disk using DOS utilities like DMDE or Linux life CD. If successful, put a clone to WD enclosure and see if a clone works in the enclosure.
If clone is also not recognised, then you need replacement for USB converter. Myself I would check voltages on the converter PCB first, but I don't know how to advise, not having PCB on my hands.

2. Your drive has USB interface, no extra USB converter. In such case, I can't tell you if this connection (assuming made it correctly) will bring out encrypted or unencrypted data. Also read the following:

There is a small chance that on-board USB converter is blown and the rest PCB fully operational, then answer is yes, you can get data out. Otherwise read a quote what must be done first.
