WD3200AAJS-40RYA0 would not start or spin

September 25th, 2012, 3:29

Hi Folks,

I'e got a WD3200AAJS drive which would not start up and is not spinning at all.
I suspected in the TVS diodes and removed them to test it out but it is still in the same state.
I have noticed that the Q4 chip looks a bit burned, a bubble on top, could it cause the problem? if it does does it mean that someother component on the PCB is faulty.
Any info would be much appreciated.

Drive details:
WD3200AAJS-40RYA0
PCB:
2060-701444-004 REV A.

Cheers,
Oded

Hi, Pcb is gone and maby preamp aswell...you need Pro help here as there is no external Rom on this one to move to a good Pcb.
You should contact Eric: member21400.html He's in the same country as you.

Good Luck

RY drives are notorious for PCB issues.

Get a new PCB and start fresh. Hopefully, there are no additional problems.

Just a quick update guys.
I replaced the Q4 chip from a donor drive and it did the job, drive is working fine and i am imaging it as we speak.
