I have a Maxtor DiamondMax23 STM31000528AS (as I understand it's the same as the Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS). I wanted to update the firmware.. apparently something went wrong during and it took -what felt like- long time with no new post. so I rested the PC.
Now the drive can not be detected, though it spins, and there is a delay (a few seconds more than usual) when first boot the PC. As I have been told by the good people of the internet, it is most likely to be BSY state.

I'm looking all over the internet for information.. I'm hoping to find someone with personal knowledge about 7200.12 BSY drives..

Also, any piece of information would be much appreciated.. I'm reading around, but I'm a total noob regarding this.

Did the drive stop working BEFORE running the update?

Search on terminal setup which is the prerequisite for those internet solutions. Do not issue any critical commands. First just post a terminal output of what the drive does once powered on.

Thank you labtech.. noted.
I'm actually not there yet. I'm trying to get my tools ready. I wanna make sure if the device/cable used to make the connection with Seagate 7200.11 drives should be used with my Maxtor 7200.12. And what about commands. are they the same for both?
This may looks like a goes-without-saying situation, but like I said, this is very new to me.
I also found people modding a Nokia CA-42 cable and using it.

What is the MDL on the drive? For example: STMXXXXXXX
Have to worry about diagnostic first to determine what the drive does first.

Maxtor DiamondMax23 STM31000528AS. I actually mentioned it in my first post.

Seems like I'm missing something.. what I understood is that I first get the device that will connect the drive to the PC (whether it's the Nokia cable or whatever) to be able to diagnose the drive's problem in the first place.

Yes, sorry, I missed out on the model.

As far as the diagnostic, I mentioned to diagnose first because you are asking if such and such solutions are the same. Applying those solutions is not diagnostic, but solutions. One would not want to apply solutions without understanding what is wrong with the drive first.

Okay, so the solutions may vary according to the problem, and (assuming) the drive's model. but the RS232/TTL converter or the CA42 cable that work with the 7200.11 would work with my drive. right?

Solutions: maybe, maybe not, or not applicable at all.
Terminal adapter: only familiar with the RS232.
