I need help removing a password on my drive that is interfering with me using it. It appears as a device in my device manager but "Unreadable". In the two PCs I have tried using it on, I get prompted by a password field on startup & after three wrong guesses the PCs restart.

This is the very first time I've encountered this type of protection & I always assumed I could simply access any hard drive after formatting them & starting from scratch. The drives don't even appear in Disk Management under Control Panel. This new technology makes this drive useless until I find a workaround.

What do the experts recommend?

This technology has the purpose of creating at least some problem in case of theft and prevent UNAUTHORIZED access, instead.

These discussions are not welcome and we DO NOT answer / ignore because of specific issues (legal, mostly - nobody want problems).
The fact that some answers were given in the past doesn't mean that everyday is always Sunday.

There are services that can unlock the drive over the internet (no they are NOT anonymous) and require paying a fee, that is dependent if you want to UNLOCK IT but loosing EVERY data on it or UNLOCK IT safely - you have also to check if your drive is supported.

Otherwise, you can refer to the nearest professional who has the necessary gear AND be prepared to sign some agreement and give a proof of ownership of the drive / PC.
