Hi everyone!

i've a little worry with two external hard disks.

Source:
WD Elements 1,5 TB

Target:
Intenso 1 TB USB 3.0 (brandnew)

The WD Elements with his NTFS Partition Table isn't recognized in WinExplorer since a few days. It happened suddenly. So i looked up in the adminstration/control of Windows. It is in unpartitioned, so in RAW.
I don't know why...

The data on it is very important to me, so i decided to backup before i do a formatting with a new partition table and MBR.

Here are the results of the copy process this night:

Code:

02.11.2012 06:34:00   Average speed: 22,2 MB/s
02.11.2012 06:34:00   Operation terminated at offset 1,000,203,026,432    LBA 1,953,521,536

67% complete 22,2 MB/s
Current sector: 1,953,529,728

1) Does anybody know why it stopped this morning at 67% ?

2) And why the hell the Intenso (target) hard disk isn't regonzized in WinExplorer now not either ?!
Is it because, the HDD Raw Copy Tool (1.02) copied all the sectors, so also the defects in the partition table?

3) What's next? ;)

i'd be so grateful to anybody who can help me out with that problem!!
thanks!
seb

Have you noticed that your source is bigger than your destination disk by about 33%
That would explain the error at 66-67%

You cant do a sector by sector image or clone as you will run out of space on the destination drive, you need to clone to the same size drive or bigger (& set hpa if drive is bigger)

jep, I noticed that, but I had the opinion/remember that I hadn't more data then 1TB on the 1,5 TB harddisk. So, I thought, it would be feasible.

so when the tool copies sector by sector, is there another tool, withthat i can copy only the data?!

If your going to try DIY & accept the risks involved then you should make a clone of the full drive and then try recovering your data from the clone. This way if the original drive is say for example dying ie bad/weak heads, bad sectors etc you wont put the drive under continuous stress & kill it quicker.

Other DR tools you can then try after you have a clone are R-Studio, FTKImager etc
Use the search facility here
