Some bridge firmware is configured with 4KB LBAs so you would need to multiply the sector numbers by 8 when you connect directly via SATA and expose the drive's 512e LBAs.

Also, I believe that the reason you are seeing zeros in sector 63 (via SATA) is that the drive would have been zero filled before being installed inside the enclosure at manufacturing time.

Or it could be that Boot Sector is at 2048 and not 63

Had a HP Storage device in yesterday.

Little USB thing very much like buster80's

WD 320Gb HDD in with an Initio 1607E bridge board.

WAS encrypted

This Buffallo is ENCRYPTED (with password)

Comes with: Samsung/Seagate/WD i`ve seen all of them

and the way it works is totally Diff. than the WD Smartware.
