I replaced the battery on my motherboard and lost the RAID 1 configuration I had. I did not realize it for a couple weeks until I happened to go into Disk Management and see the "Failed Redundancy" label on the one drive.

So, now I have 1 drive that is current with data I have been placing on it and one drive that lacks the data during the period the RAID1 was not configured.

The question is, can the RAID 1 be re-established without losing the data on both drives? Or, are both drives wiped clean when you designate them as RAID 1?

The only solution I can think of, is to transfer all the data off the good drive, re-establish the RAID 1, then transfer all the data back onto the RAID 1 array.

Good thinking. Better safe than sorry.

Also, check the drives SMART values to ensure there is nothing wrong with them and will not deal with any surprises soon.

I agree...make sure all data is backed up prior to attempting to re-enable the RAID 1 mirror.
