Helo,

There's an HDD (2.5" Samsung HM250JI) removed from a broken notebook.
When the disk was connected to a PC to extract the information, it started getting hot and it turned out that the 3.3v supply converter is fried. So it was decided to get a donor and swap the PCB. The result - disk is spinning and heads are clicking. The disk now gets hot on the side of the heads only.
Then the magnetic disks were transferred into the donor hdd. It now passes the internal test, but bios would not detect disk and the terminal gives such info:

1.5G Limited
SPW 1.5G Link Ok!
IS=+00000
SO
H: +00000
Ld
SK C: 000019CF
ENG>SRV>
SvoTbl Loaded
BD

Any ideas on how to recover the data from this disk? Thanks.

This pcb seems to not have external ROM. How do you know the problem was not just about incompatible ROM?

Did you swap the heads already?

Yes, I have swapped magnetic disk platters from the non-working disk into the donor disk like shown in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgqOcEAdSas, but using plastic instead of metal and gloves.
Donor disk is the exat match of the non-working disk with few months difference between release dates. For me there was more easy to swap drivers than heads as the amplifier of the old heads is bad.

This is some crazy logic. Changing the media was a HUGE mistake and you have potentially caused some serious issues in addition to the original fault.

Did you at least read the comments for that youtube video before you copied it??

absolutely ridiculous. You'd never be able to access your data for so many different reasons...

if you want to see a bunch geeks die of laughter show this to your IT department at work

For me, it seems that the data is not so valuable that you could be so reckless. Trash the disk and cut your losses.

If data is important to you professional recovery is needed to save data, if even possible now, and because of your botched attempt it will not be cheap.
