Seagate barracuda 7200.12

January 25th, 2013, 15:51

Hello, i hope to write everithing right cos English is not my strong lenaguaje

I have a Hard Drive Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 (500 GB) model ST500DM002 Fw: JC4B, so the problem is sudendly the bios check the disck on an smart error and the capacity change from only 4g, i change de PCB and still the same, so i try the BSY fix and cant get a message from de hiperterminal (i try this with other disk and work) so i suposse is not a BSY problem or lba, oh when i try the seetoll i notice that change de name of the hard drive to ST_M13FQBL, any ideas i need to recover some information of this disk.

thks so much.

You are out of your league on this one. You may of made things worse by blindly trying different fixes. You cannot just swap PCB'S on this family anyways. Not sure you are aware of that fact. But the 7200.12 families can be a serious pain to deal with even for the seasoned pros out there, and what worked on the 7200.11 will not work on the .12 families.

Get a pro in your area to look at it, and hopefully your attempts did not make data recovery too expensive , if it is possible at this time.

Good Luck

+2 for beto (Alberto).

P.S. when you see "ST_M13FQBL" the disk is one step from being (if not already) royally f***ed. - means that the disk is recognised as "very first" factory alias so the problem was worsened (don't know what you have done)

Good luck.

Not DIY fix

But you now may have done DIY until you have killed it :(

Thks to all for the answers i read that the problem is on the hidden system area, the disk cant access and for default retunr the name of the factory the ST_M13FQBL, so i think i need to do the 0 LBA fix the thing is that i cant get to communicate with the PCB, i dont know if is for the voltaje or what amd doing test with other disk so if i figure how to solve i will write the solution on spanish jeje.

Thks any way.

Problem is NOT "LBA 0 fix" it is a physical problem.

One size does NOT fit all

and even if it was, it wont work for .12

I wonder what makes you think it is the 0 LBA problem anyway.
It is heads related.

i think is the lba problem cos the articule that i read and other one's, but am not an expert, just an user who whant the info on the disck i'll take all your sugestions and since i post i dont do anithyng on the problem disk, i was testing on other disk (same that the one with the problem just without the problem), so there no way to get back the info?

thks to all

You have already been advised to contact a pro in your area to have your drive evaluated. I'm afraid this is the only way to get your data back.

If you are so sure about what you read on the internet, why ask ? Do it at your own risk and don't cry later or refer ONLY to the people who wrote the 'articles'. What else ?
