hello friend ,

i have recieved today a wd10ears-00mvwb0 , PCB printed code is 2060-771698-002 rev a

with fried PCB , "TVS was shorted , removed " but a couple of the motor chip feed capacitors are shorted too, so pcb is dead .

to test if the pre amp is burnt as well, i usually stick another PCB from what ever hdd that has the same shape and test to see if drive powers up .
using two diff. PCBs taken from 320,160 gigs from the same shape , did make the wd10ears spins for less than a second and pcb then burnt .

i found that
pre amp is burnt or a PCB from a HDD that has less capacity than 1 tera would burn because 1 tera drive need more electrisity from PCB that originally taken from 160/320 ?

should i order a full donor drive ?

Yes. Or at least donor PCB.

Size is irrelevant. PCB # required to replace PCBs because of ( Motor controller#, MCU#...etc. )

Good luck

thank you for your fast reply .
i meant , should i order a full hdd doner to swap the head set also ? as the pre amp is burnt .

using PCBs from other drives is just to see if drive spins and insure that the problem is only with PCB and not with pre amp, but after the two PCBs burnt i had suspecious that the pre amp is also propably burnt .

using

i meant , is using a PCB from a lot smaller capacity HDD on alot bigger hdd will result in burning the PCB even if the pre-amp of the large HDD is not harmed ?

If the pcb # are same it's ok, today i used a 160 Gb pcb to recover a 320 Gb, yesterday it was a 1 Tb pcb to recover a 750 Gb.
The things is that you need to write the rom, and this is not so easy to do without pro tools.
Rom swap can be done it U12 chip present else all is embeded and no way to do that @ Home.

Good Luck
