Connecting laptop HDD in a desktop PC

July 19th, 2013, 8:43

I have a SATA Laptop HDD, that I want to now install in my desktop.
While the power connector pin configuration on laptop HDD looks same as that of desktop, it operates on 5V. So will it be safe enough to connect it in the desktop?
Thanks.

The power connector supplies both +5v and +12v...in your case only the +5v line will be used...just plug it in.

It will be fine, the drive will not use the 12v rail, only the 5v one.
