Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi you all
Since few days ago my HDD stopped being recognized by the computer. The disk spins and the power is on, but the computer fails to recongize it as a unit. Actually you can unmount it, but that's much about it. Tried it with 8 different computers...
I've half my life in there (figure of speech, but you know what I mean), so I've figured out to ask for help before handing it over to expert hands.
I don't recall dropping it lately, but the disk has had a harsh life (started acting up before, but not to the point to not be able to do a thing with it).
Any ideas or suggestions on how to act? Thank you very much for your help (even if it's little).
Ariadna

This drive will need pro intervention if data is important. Most likely FW problem.
Good luck

That's what I've done. And the tech said he wasn't really sure he could recover the data, but he would give it a shot. Fingers crossed here. Anyway, thanks a lot for your replies.

No local computer shop. Was asking around a bit before dropping it.
