Hello!

I have an external portable Buffalo HD-PCTU3, 500 GB, using a USB3.0 cable. It stopped working after I unplugged it accidentally while it was copying files.
Whenever I plug it in the computer, I hear a sound of connecting a device and the LED starts blinking and I the HD makes a sound of alert :( beep beep beep beep!
It doesn't appear in My Computer, but appears in Devices and Printers. When I right-click it sometimes it shows device needs troubleshooting and it says there's a problem with the driver for USB MASS Storage Device! It starts searching for device driver, but it fails :(

Sometimes I when I right-click it, I can see an option of Browse Files, but the drive is disabled and I cannot access it.

I tried to search for it in Disk Management, but it shows no media within the drive!

I wonder what to do with it. I need the data and I need to use the HD too :?
I sent it to some shops to fix it, but they said they couldn't do so and some said it cannot be fixed! There are no professional people in our country to fix such problems.

I still have a hope that it'll work. Could you please help me?

Hi, It's not the drive it self you see in device/printers it's just the usb-controller.
Your drives heads are more likely landed on the platter (sticktion) and it's not DIY, you need to contact a Data Recovery Service to fix this problem.

This can be a problem to use it again. Like Mr Spokk said this sounds like your heads are landed on the platters of your drive. If you are lucky and stop to use this one maybe a person who is not so far from you will take on this job. You will have to send this out to them and pay for the postage both ways. But you can get back your data and not sure if you can use the drive again. It all depends on the damage when it is opened in a clean room to see if the heads have damaged the platters or not. If they are stuck a good professional can remove them and start the drive again.

Thanks guys;

I'll try to find someone here who might fix it and if not, I might send it to Dubai.

I tried to plug the drive directly to the pc without enclosure but it still doesn't work and the beeping sound is too low to record. I'll try to find a similar sound on the net and post it here.

Thank you all.

If it's only stiction (Head stuck on platter) i should be able to help you at a very reasonable price, if you are willing to ship to Portugal. I also do have access to class 100 clean room. No data no fee.

Please correct me if I am wrong. The last time you were here on the forum you said you tinker with DR as a hobby and you work for a Pharmacy. Since when did you buy DR tools. The last time I knew they were way too expensive for you to have and you were complaining on this one. You were aslways asking questins here for scripting and about WD and Seagate drives. People would send you some information and all of a sudden what they said was plastered all over the net. I would not think that offering this poor person to do this for him is a very good idea at all considering this is not your line of work. I feel like he is better off to send this to a real DR company. I would like to suggest that you do not offer help if you do not own your lab and have the tools and knowledge to do this one. A hobby is a hobby and this can do more damage than good to a person drive if they accept to send this one to you. You have limited knowledge on how all this work. Thank you and sorry to call you out on this but I really hate people to screw up a persons drive.

You know what. I will never ask anyone here on this forum to send me their work. Why because I live on an islands in the middle of the South Pacific and the post alone will kill them. Not only that our customs laws are so bad it would be stupid for me to do this one. If the guy wants you to do this one have at it. I would refuse anyhow for anyone to send me anything here. I have plenty of work for me here on the islands and do not need to ask people for other places to send me anything. So good luck and hope you attitude can change on the way you are.
