Samsung HD642JJ - 640 GB

April 3rd, 2013, 6:46

Hi Guys,

I'm using a MacBook (OSX) and saved all my files over the years on my external drive.
The external drive is called: trekstor datastation maxi g.u 640gb.

Yesterday I plugged the external drive into my macbook.
Suddenly I could see the hard drive but it is not accessible (no read or write function).
I tried to restart it a couple of times but nothing happened... so I opened the casing of the external drive.
It is a samsung hd642jj hard drive and it starts as usual (spins and the typical sounds) but as mentioned before it is not accessible anymore.

Is there any Software (OSX) I can use to see what is wrong with it ?
Is the read / write head ?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE !!!

Is the data inside the drive important for you ? If so you might want to consider to take the drive to a data recovery facility.
Did you tested to connect the drive directly to the pc sata port ?
Try to do so and use Mhdd to check if it detects the drive and if you can scan it at all.
Does the drive clicks or does it looks like it's working normally ?

I think as Spildit, if you are not experimented wit HD recovery contact with a local pro
