I have.

MDL: wd20earx-00pasbo.
DATE: jul 2012.
DCM: harnhtjmab.
Product of Thailand.

PCB.
PCB: 2060-771698-004 rev A Marvel 88i9146-TFJ2 ; 1219-b2c ; cn.
Motor Controller: SMOOTH L7251 3.1 controller chip.
That chip was getting overstressed and died or took the power fluctuation (from a bad power supply) and burned out.I know that could damage other components but I hope they are ok..

I don't have money to go to specialist,so i will try to fix it myself..
I know that firmware is in U12 chip(ROM).My question is:.

1) I need to buy PCB 2060-771698-004 with marvel 88i9146-TFJ2 and Motor Controller: SMOOTH L7251 3.1 and transfer a chip U12 from old PCB?.
2) For my hard disk do I need to transfer Marvel 88i9146-TFJ2 too or not?(have also firmware??).I know that is difficult to achive but I hope that's not the case.
3) I don't have warranty for this disk but disk is only 14 month old.Would WD accept it without warranty or can I get anything from them before I try to save my files?.

.
I have more question but this is more important.I read many posts, and I hope you can help me.
thank you

If ROM is present in U12, then there is no need to swap the Marvell.

thank you for replay mr_spokk.

I don't know if ROM is only on U12 or both chip.
I send email to WD and I will write here if they say something.
With the same model there are many changes with platters, chips.. every 2-3 months. There are many speculation what is your options, and what is right things to do.
DO I need same version on chips(Marvell and motor control chip) as I have on old PCB, because this PCB(2060-771698-004) have 1 version but version of chips are different from 1 board to another with same revision of PCB?
I think the answer is yes but I need evidence for that.
I know how capitalism works but this support is very bad and information about this is like "top secret". They tell you so little and because of that there are many speculations about that.
I read posts from fzabkar and I learn a lot. I hope this can help others. What I found I will write here.

Oh, again about capitalism and "greedy guys"!

Informations in this forum are useful for those who have knowledge about hdds. For others they are useless (inapplicable) becuase they don't understand them. And non understandable thing in wrong hands can make damage.

There are no "speculations" when things are clear. There is no simple answer on all your questions because there is no complete info about your case and nobody responsible will give you any advice. It has nothing to do with "capitalism", "greedy guys" etc.

If you really need your files, then DO NOT try DIY (Uradi sam = Do it yourself on serbian)

If your PCB has a U12 chip, you don't need to transfer the Marvell chip.
Only the U12 chip is enough.

Get a WD20EARS-00PASB0 with the same PCB number and same Marvell chip. Transfer the U12 chip (ROM), then it should work.

You can check the warranty of your drive at the WD Homepage. Go to warranty -> check warranty and type in the S/N of your drive and chose your country.

But WD won't accept a drive without the original PCB.

This kind of attitude is typical for new members frustrated because of not telling them the "top secret" stuff. Insults cann't make things better. It's strange (or not?) what people get when give well-meaning advice.

So, my compatriot said: if anybody wants more info feel free to ask
