I'm looking for a list of the hard drive vendors factory master passwords. Does anyone know where this might be available?
In particUlar I am looking for the Hitachi master password for a 2.5 drive.
I assume the passwords are different and change over time.
This information must be out there somewhere for the enthusiasts.

http://ipv5.wordpress.com/2008/04/14/li ... passwords/In earlier models the master password was often stored in plain text. In such cases you can examine the appropriate firmware module. In WD drives this is MOD 02. In Hitachi HDDs I believe it is either the SECI or ICES module (ICES = SECI reversed). Recent Hitachi HDDs appear to encrypt or compress this module.
