The centos had two 4TB disks in RAID 1 software raid. One disk is not getting detected.

The IT service person, installed two new hard disks and installed Centos again with same RAID1 config. He then connected the surviving one old disk to the machine. Unfortunately due to some bad commands, the Centos started to sync the content of the new disk to the old disk destroying about 12% of the data on the old surviving RAID1 disk.

Now I can see the old disk has the same file layout as the new installation, but I believe the data which is about 1.2TB, is still surviving in the old disk. Any recommended software to recover the 1.2TB of data?

You have still one another 4Tb drive. Restore it and get all the data from him .

The overwritten drive is only going to net a RAW recovery of what wasn't overwritten. It certainly would be the last option, in my mind.

I recommend that you send the "bad" drive to a data recovery lab and see if they can do anything with it. But, be prepared that a physically damaged 4TB drive is not going to be a fast or cheap recovery with most labs.

The old non-accessible drive may not contain the most current data, as it may have failed a while back. So, have to consider carefully.

Agreed labtech - I was just typing something similar. :) It depends whether the important customer data was written before or after the "currently faulty" drive actually failed (and finding when that happened can be difficult to know, in some cases).

Thanks all for your response

No luck from recovering the 12% disk. Also the client has close to 400,000 files, so raw recovery will not be useful.

Luckily the client got old backup and managed the restore to an earlier date with around 1% data loss
