SAMSUNG HM100UX 1TB USB Only, dead heads? + terminal report

July 9th, 2013, 20:21

Hi All,

I have got this drive:
Model : SAMSUNG HM100UX
Firmware : 2AM10001
Capacity : 931.51 GB (1 953 525 168)
USB ONLY 2.5 drive.

I have got the feeling that it has heads failure but not sure. So I attached terminal report out of PC3000 Samsung utility.

Background:
While I cheack the drive at the first time I noticed that the mini USB conector has some dammage. So I fixed that connector with the help of a soldering station. Right now I have to hold the usb cable for the right angle in order to have drive spining and blue led flashing (but without recognization).
As you know those drives come naturally without terminal pins so I solder 2 terminal wires to the drive board.

PC3000 SAMSUNG utility gives the following terminal output:
Is the following output tells that the heads are finished? or the drive has some PCB issues?
By the naked eye the heads seems to be alright but the client tells the drive got hit.

I meant that I already opened the drive and saw the heads resting on their ramp.
By checking the terminal report I am not sure if the drive cann't be recognize because of a PCB failure or because of heads problem.
I cheacked, there is no any sticktion state.
My gut-feeling is the heads are bad but before I west good heads on that drive I want to be sure that this is the problem.
Any way to verify if the heads or the PCB is the problem?
When I say pcb problem I mean that maybe my patch on the PCB didn't work as it should be so one or more of the usb connector thin legs are not touching the board while seems ok.
