Pardoné thy intrusion my Lords, but I now pray to you that you can find it in your heart to answer one simple question. I give you my word that if you help me, His grace shall be adequately rewarded. Allow me three shakes to demonstrate:

Alright, so this phenomena occurs when I run Disk Utility. Doesn't matter if it's off a DVD, USB flash drive or from another Mac in Target Disk Mode.

While it shows multiple FW hard drives, I assure you there is only one. If you let it sit there and do nothing, it will keep adding duplicates to the list and it does so about every 3- 5 minutes. Needless to say, repairing the disk doesn't work and it won't mount. In addition, I don't know the exact version of OSX installed, but it's an iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009) and was shipped with 10.6.2.

Please show merci on moi my Lords and bless my with your infinite wisdom for I am merely a humble peasant. You will not regret helping me.

What exactly are trying to accomplish? E.g. repair file system, extract data, etc.

I'd start by removing the hard drive from the enclosure to eliminate the enclosure from the problem.

It's removed from an iMac and placed into my enclosure.

Diagnostics. Ultimately I want the data, but I first need to determine what's going on and what it will take to recover it.

Has nobody seen this before?

Could be many issues and not enough to conclude something concrete.
1) What is the full model of the drive?
2) Have you tried eliminating the firewire cable as being the problem?
3) Have you tried connecting the drive in a different way?
4) Have you run any other diagnostics such as with MHDD for example?
5) Does a healthy known drive work fine in the same configuration, firewire enclosure and cable as when trying with the iMac drive?
