Hello Geeks,

I purchased a SEAGATE EXPANSION 1TB External hard disk 4 months back. It was connected to my laptop. The disk was slightly shaken while I was moving the laptop over to the next table as it was hanging down from the laptop's USB slot and it got hit.

And now this is not getting detected. While I connect the hard disk to the PC or any laptop, the blue LED on it stays and within 30 seconds the light starts blinking. It does not get detected in my computer nor in the disk managament neither in the device manager. The safely remove hardware also does not come up.

I have some critical notes for some 70 GB stored inside the hard disk. Kindly help me to recover this.

Best chance of getting your files back, send to a reputable professional data recovery lab.

Hi anup,

Physical damage.

Any attempt to repair or recover without a full and proper diagnosis will make matters worse.

If these are indeed critical the *only* option here for a good outcome is to send the drive to a reputable data recovery company.

This job needs someone with professional experience and equipment to avoid further loss.

Hello anup1304,
I think your Hard disk have Physical damage, please don't try online software's because in physical damage the software's are not helpful, only Data Recovery Service Provider Company can help you. The damaged HDD can only open in CLASS 100 CLEAN ROOM in presence of Data Recovery expert. They can recover your lost Data.

To rule out physical connection problem (USB problem as you have said that it was hanging), takeout the HDD from its casing and connect it directly to a SATA port, and check whether it is recognized or not.

If it's really critical material, I'd stop right here, right now, and call in the experts. No messing around with taking stuff apart.

Hi, You better stop right there and try any good recovery tool like ***. It can restore all kind of data from any corrupted drive. It’s my partner in recovering data and its quiet better and easy.

Bit late now with the advice mate since the last post was submitted way back on August 21st, 2013. I'm sure he's given up and returned the drive to the shop for a new one and learned his lesson to back up important stuff and don't move 1TB drives around while plugged in and running...
