My Seagate SRD00F2, 2TB Expansion Hard Drive has just started acting up on me. After misplacing the power supply, I recently bought a new one, and upon plugging it in, the hard drive beeped once and the spindle started to whir. After a moment, the whirring quieted down, and then started up again, and continues like this until its unplugged.

Obviously something is wrong, but I am curious just how broken it is. The new power supply should be sufficient for the hard drive (12V, 2A) so I wouldn't think that this is the issue, but I have no way of even testing it.

Any ideas are appreciated!

Thanks

what was the specs for the hard drive original P/S? I would think the new one is enough, but what is it out of curiosity?
you checked the - and + are right for the ring and tip?
have you tried a different USB cable?
have you tried on a diferent PC?
if it is easy to open it up, check on the PCB for any obvious components blown or fried. Use a good light and magnifying glass.

I have a Seagate 2TB Expansion Hard Drive as well, but it is not here at work with me today so when I get home I will take a look at it for any other likely suggestions, but really thats all I can come up with right now.

I believe that the original power supply was 12V/1.5A, so I'm confident that there is no issue there. As for whether it fits correctly, it seems like it does. Also, someone else who purchased the same supply from Amazon said that it worked for their STBV2000100 2TB expansion as well.

I also lost the USB 3 cable that came with the hard drive so that was purchased new as well. Unfortunately I don't have any other devices which use that micro-B end, so I can't verify that either. I know that when I plug the adapter into the wall and the device, it won't start whirring until the USB cable is plugged in as well. The light on the device never turns on regardless, though.

Also, yes-- tried on multiple PCs, all of which the drive has worked on before. And, I will see if I can get it open; they look like they enclose it pretty well but I might be able to get it apart.

Thanks for your help!

I read last night -somewhere- that someone had the same issue they would connect the hard disk with a "brick" ps and it didn't work properly, connect it with a pc power supply and it was perfect. see if you can find anyone with a different power supply to test, or get another one. or if it is a sata hard disk inside, connect straight to a pc
