Best chipset to investigate failed drive? Mine get pc freeze

September 28th, 2013, 22:02

When connect my failed drive, the pc freezes.
Tried another computer with via chipset and it hangs freezing intermittently, into a loop, being few seconds responsive, few second freezed.
There is any chipset is preferred, so i can investigate with free tools?

P.S.
WD3200BPVT not recognized by bios making a continuous noise after the spinup and heads moving.
Forgot to say that if i disconnect the drive, the hangs vanish.
If I use WDR i can't read modules because the drive becames unresponsive.
I tried safe mode through pad e47 shorted to ground but not able to do anything.
