Hi everybody,

My usb connector on my samsung usb drive 250go is broken and it seems really difficult to repair so i decided to explore others possibilities as described here.
I have already post in another topic my exact situation with (bad) pictures to describe it.

Model: HM252HX
HDD P/N: HM252HX/VPK
PCB Number BF41-00282A 00
PCB Info M7S-S_Line Rev .01 R00
Number of Main Chip: 88i8823-TFJ2

I'm always on the same issue but now i'm exploring TTL access in order to debug/dump/flash rom.

For remember, i have read what others people had done and removed the 4 capacitors, connected Tx ( +/-) and Rx ( +/-) from the pcb to a sata connector without any result.

When i powered up, blue light was on and i heard the disk rotation.
Here is my TTL dump (TTL information take time to appear .... but I leave it, the more I see ). I press escape at the end.

Code:

Hi,

No answer yet but I'm working on my side and tell my story for others who need help.

Episode 2:
When I power up the disc, there is clicking noise.
So, I suspected a problem of head.
I tried the SD (spin-down) command and it went without error, but the SU command make clicking noise too.

I tried another USB drive that works for check my comand and results and it did the same thing when I plug 1 single USB cable, if I connect 2 USB calbe it works ...

I therefore conclude that I have a power problem on my broken hdd.
Now, I power up with another source and IT WORKS.
I can type all the commands like LB/LD/L4/LT/LS....

But with the LB (BIRSLT view), it doesn't give me the firmware version....
Code:
PA VID=0007 PN=0000 Rev=0004
                                   *PA VID=0007 PN=0000 Rev=0004

I think the situation is getting worse and worse. The simplest solution was to have fixed the USB connector or simply replace it.

Hi,

It may be difficult because i have not place to soldering another USB connector and i have already remove all capacitors to connect Sata cable.

Pictures to explain (taken from another post):

Red lines (2,3 usb pins) are gone

and capacitors (green) are removed.

Can i replace those capacitors ? and can i plug my usb connector elsewhere ?

I don't understand how can i read serial number or execute command but i can't have firmware number !? something wrong with a module ?
can i dump all module via ttl ? DR command ?

Thank you

Hi all,

Episode 3: Soldering sata connector done !!

I plugged sata cable on usb adapter (I just have a portable computer). After trying many positions (T+ (hdd) > R+ (sata cable), T+ > T+, ...), i have more information in terminal screen since the last time.

Code:
...
PwrOn RRO1x @ H0

Hi all,

Episode 4 & end : Backup !!

I found another drive with the same PCB (Imation apollo) and i used the swap method which working pretty good (with terminal's commands to spindown/up/Reset).
My data are now safe.
Anyway I'm still working on broken HDD to understand why my usb to sata adaptation is not working.

Coptere
