Hello everyone,
I would like to ask you few questions about Seagate 5400.6. I have 5 pieces of these drives:
ST9500325AS
ST9320325AS
ST9500325AS
ST9500325AS
ST9320325AS

I need to recover data from it. I think, that it should be hyperterminal issue. I do not have PC-3000, only tool for 7200.11 and ES2 issue. I was successful in recovering data using it.
I have read this thread: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=15155&p=183133&hilit=5400.6#p183133
I tried to use these commands, but I was not successful and I do not want to destroy my drive.
Can you recommend me some commands, which I can use to access to my harddrive. There are not any head or PCB issues, I think
I am totally hopeless :(
Thanks for any advice :)
Oliver

How are the drives behaving? This model sustains mechanical damage more often rather than firmware issue. Sometimes it is both..

I think before running any commands, you should explain a bit more detailed what's going on with your drive in order to get some help.
First of all, listen to it and tell us something.

Thanks for your replies...
I would like to answer your questions:
1. drive - 5400.6-500GB - I can see it in BIOS, but when I connect it via USB bridge, Mac says: The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer. I have tried there several commands... Windows shows it as unallocated, 500 GB. After some time I hear noise - beeping. It is similar in other drives.

2. drive - 5400.6 - 320GB - I can see it in Disk Utility and sometimes I am successful in mounting one partition (DATA), but I want to see and copy partition SYSTEM. Disk Utility shows both od this partition. Windows adviced me to format these partitions. I have tried here some commands in hyperterminal. NO bepping.

3. drive - 5400.6 - 500GB - LED is blicking after every 6 second (once time only). There are not any strange noises.

4. drive - 5400.6 - 500GB - Drive is spinning up, but then beeping... I cannot see it in Disk Utility.

5. drive - 5400.6 - 320GB - Similar as 4. drive. Sometimes there is strange noise, looks like something with heads...

Thanks for advice.

So, it seems like all/most of your drives are formatted for MAC, which explains why Windows reports as "unallocated".

As far as failures, seems like there are various issues with each one. For those that are beeping, does the motor spin? Can you hear it spinning clearly?

More than likely, all of them will have issues with bad sectors.

No, every drive is formatted for Windows. On first drive should be different problem.
To 4. and 5. - The motor spins clearly, but after it I hear only beeping.

Then why do this "but when I connect it via USB bridge, Mac says: The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." and use "Disk Utility" on a Mac.

Anyway, I think your descriptions are inconsistent, thus confusing.

If you do not have advanced tools, I would use a combination of MHDD and terminal output to get a better idea of the problem on each drive.

Labtech is right, try to get that combination and shows us for each drive.

But anyway, if your data is valuable, I think you should get a pro to look at them before messing more with them, because you might kill some drive with the attempts.
