ST31000333AS bad sectors stops drive

December 1st, 2013, 16:10

Got one of these in. 6 heads which seem fine but two of the surfaces have a lot of bads on them. Seems to have corrupted MFT.

Everytime it hits of the the bad sectors I have to get DE to switch the drive off and on before it will read again, is this normal or is there any way around it?

Imaging the 4 decent surfaces first then go back to the other two.

Atola insight wont do selective heads on this drive. I have a DDI on order but wont arrive for a week or two so DE is my only choice at present. Looks like this is going to take an age....Any suggestions welcome

Disable the defect adding and other options in "edit drive ID" in the Seagate utility.

See if that helps
