WD2500AAJS problem with loader trying to load module 11

December 15th, 2013, 20:55

Sup all

OK I am triying to fix a drive using the loader method and don't know why is not working, why when I try to load module 11 it says OK... But I am unable to view the SA, now does the drive needs to spin after I upload the module? I'm I missing something? How do I know when module 11 will work fine and I will be able to fix the SA, this issue looks a lot like a FW issue, I know is not heads cause it was working and a friend did the repair option using the SD tool and after that the drive is on a BSY state, I am using the jumpers on the WD drive so the drive is not spinning but I am able to get into kernel mode.

Thanks.

Yes, the drive needs to be spinning.

Yes @BlackST using UDMA, I have a good donor cause I swap PCB and the source PCB worked good with the donor drive I was able to use the donor with no problem, so it needs to be something with the SA.

@pcimage OK so that's the weird part then, drive with jumpers will not spin, after I upload module 11, it doesn't do nothing, but it says it was uploaded successfully into overlay, I think I am missing something here.

Thank. You for replies.

The HDD will enter kernel mode without jumpers, and this is when you need to load LDR, but if the problem is mechanical then spindle will stop before readiness and loading LDR still wont work

Hey @hddguy Really without jumpers? cause what i have been reading i need to use jumpers or the piece of paper in the head connectors, to enter kernel don't know other way to do it, spindle is good, cause when is spinning it doesn't stop, I even was trying to do it with the good donor, and is not working, so it must be something that I am doing wrong.

Thanks

what does it do when powered without jumpers? Does it remain powered, does it display ready state? Even if it shows BSY for a long time, eventually it will power down or reach ready, both cases you will be able to work in Kernel and assuming it remains powered you can try to load LDR

@hddguy when i power the drive without jumpers, the drive spins and then stops spinning and it stays Busy, thats it, i haven't let the drive to stay for a long period of time on the BSY state, i will need to check if i can LDR the file on that BSY state then.

Try to short pins TV9 + TV10 before powering, keep it shorted until you see DRD & DSC lit in status register, at this point check if it is still powered. If yes, then you should now be able to reach SA via hardware checking within WD utility. If at DRD & DSC the spindle has stopped, then almost certainly there is some physical fault

Agree. And make sure that the drive keep spinning after reach DRD & DSC.

Good luck
