Seagate 7200.12 - 1.0 TB | ST31000528AS | P/N:9SL154-568 | Firmware : CC35 | Data Code : 09456

Hi guys Happy new year to you,

I'm pulling my hair out with this drive and just want to know if there is anything I can do before chucking it in the bin :-(

Its come from a external HD and It spins fine and shows up on the pc, it is seen in the device manager and shows up on Disc manager but cant be accessed or formatted??

I have tried to boot off my windows disc and re partition it that way but keep getting errors too.

Is it likely needing a new PCB? I am happy to buy one if its likely to work again.

Is there anything else I can do to try to get it to work?? sorry im a bit of a noob when it comes to HDD

Thanks in advance for your help :-)

Bilko.

Can you see the partitions in Disk Management? If not, then could it be that your drive is protected by a password? What does a tool such as HD Sentinel report regarding the drive's security status? Does HD Sentinel report the SMART attributes?

Thanks guys for getting back to me about this :)

The drive seems to work intermittently, it hangs at times for a minutes at a time but then seems to come back to life. I have tried to do a check using Disk HD tune pro and the scan only fills 2 blocks of the thousands that are there? when it decides to make a appearance on Disk management it shows up as RAW? when I try to test it with HD sentinel it just gives it the old I/O device error which to be fair is exactly what I get whenever I try to access it through windows. Does that mean its beyond repair?

I have got quite a lot of stuff I would like to get off the drive so if its easy'ish' to buy that little tool and do this I am happy to do this.

Thanks again for your help with this guys.

Thanks, I will give someone a shout on here before starting.

Is there a page/video instruction guide I can follow you know of?

Also Is it fair to say that there isn't much chance of getting the drive working again

Cheers
