Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi there
I have a Maxtor 40GB DiamondMax Plus 8 which just went dead. There was some faint clicking sound a day before it went dead. The motor does not spin up, no sound, no vibration, the harddrive is plain cold when connected to the power. Obviously it is not detected by Bios. I suspect it could be the PCB dead and I am considering a PCB swap with a donor drive. I need some advice from you guys.
The information for the dead drive is as follows:
MODEL: 6E040L0
Code: NAR61GA0
4-letter code K,M,G,A
SN: E1SV1JFE
TLA: 6E040L0711233
Date 08MAY2004
Made in Singapore
Board number on label: B8FEC
Controller Chip: agere Ardent C9-C1 040112600
Smooth Chip: SH6782B
I found a donor drive with the information as follows:
DiamondMax Plus 8
ATA/133 HDD
Model: 6E040L0
Cap: 40GB
ATA/IDE
SN: E1RSVZJE
TLA: 6E040L0711233
CODE: NAR61GA0
(K,M,G,A)
Date: 05MAY2004
Board number on Label: CACREBFQ (B8FEA) 0604406CMY ER
Controller chip: 040112600
Motor Combo Chip: SH6782B
The two drives match most except the Board number B8FEC versus B8FEA and the serial number defers. I have been reading a lot from the Internet and from this forum but still not clear. The Internet offers conflicting information, some says look out for code ie NAR61GA0, other says board number ie B8FEC is important. This forum mentioned quite extensively on Maxtor +9 but not the +8 hard drive. Which are the important criteria for a successful PCB swap for a Maxtor +8?
Thank you.

Thanks for the fast replies!
I could not contact the owner of the donor drive and I have to consider alternate donor source. I could not find a donor drive with close manufacturing date ie same month in May 2004. May I know what are the minimum set of information that I need to look out for to get a good matching donor?
