Hello
I have a WD5000BEVT Mercury having an issue wherein its unable to read both the copies of Translator. Gives Error while reading.
Heads are okay.
I have saved COPY of the MODULES when it was working before it failed.
Is there a way to start with the saved modules.
Or any other suggestions please ...
Thanks

hello
Follow these instructions,
1. copy all modules and save them to a secure place
2. change module 31 offset to another empty place . means shift to other empty track.
3. reset power
4. upload donor 31 number module
5. clear p list and its translator.(31 and 33 module)
6. regenerate P list, it will auto generate its translator automatically. self scan test D2 regenerate p list from SS log.
7. power rest
8. all data back
1. HAPPY

Yes, the screen capture is from pc3000 Marvell utility.

And i don't advice to run SS when data is required...

hello
spildit you need to learn more about pc3000. if there is no option to regenerate p list then no problem. i tell you how to regenerate p list by pc3000 or any other tool.

1. open self scan script window, delete all test
2. now open self scan script again now add test ID D2 and set all parameter to 0000.
3. save this script to hard disk.
4. now open module window and clear e6 module
5. clear 31 and 33 module
6. reset power
7. open self scan window. and just run stand alone test D2, without clearing SS log.
(again , don't clear SS log.)
8. wait for complete.
9. reset power
10. i think you become happy after step number 9.

Most likely on ROb case, changing the location of mod 31 and regen translator will do, as i don't have any reason to believe that P-List is damaged, and so no need to re.gen it from SS log.

As for the procedure, thanks !!!!

I normaly do the following :

1 - Clear p-list and change location if needed.
2 - Open WDR and chose the option to regen P-List from SS log.

Done (it will even re-calculate translator for you free of charge).

Regards.

yes regenerate p list auto regenerate p list translator.
sediv for WD has a function to regenerate only translator, so no need to regenerate p list.

WDR have that option too.
Quick format with P-List or click the "Bell" icon on 5.3 (Recalculate Translator).

With WDR :

I only use the PC3K CARD as a hardware "helper" for WDR;
If you plug a "damaged" drive to the computer directly sometimes the computer might freeze, even if you have WDR opened and you power on the drive with the system already running. Using WDR with the PC3K card will solve that problem (system hang / re-boot) with some motherboards. If the drive to fix is a WD i never use the PC3K Marvell tool.

Also on PC3K Marvell tool (at least on UDMA) there is the option to Regen translator without getting P-List from SS logs ...

Log In to acelab forum using your credentials (if you have legal PC3K UDMA you should have access to the forum) and read here :

http://acelaboratory.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=7181

This will also explain how to change location of the translator module.

Regards.

I can do that by hand. Just edit MOD 01.
