My 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001 (p/n: 9YN166-306) is failing to spin up and is not found by BIOS or operating systems.
When turned on, it sounds like it tries to spin up a few times, and fails. I made an mp3 of it here:
http://1drv.ms/1mpPGehCould anyone please suggest some next steps? Getting the data back from it would be a huge relief!
Let me know if there's any issue downloading the mp3, I haven't done much sharing with OneDrive...

Sounds like that the drive needs to visit the data recovery doctor.

Aah, I was afraid of that. I'll call around locally - any idea how much this might cost or what the chances of a full recovery are? I saw that Seagate has a data recovery service, but I'm reluctant to give them any money after what is the third failure on one of their drives within a few months - and this one was their return replacement for another one that failed! Thank you!

You might be able to find someone here who is around your area who could provide you a more honest diagnosis of your HDD problem and could give you the proper walkthrough to get your files back.

Hi, that drive has bad heads...has it been dropped?
You should contact Jono-Ats on this forum, he's in Atlanta:
