hello.

i just bought 1 x 2TB WD blk and 1 x 3TB WD blk drive ( serious £££££ for me)

i had just put all my data on them individually. I then went to power them both up via a cheap Y split power plug,
somehow the plug allowed me to connect them both reversed polarity!!!!!

They obviously did not show up in the bios...... then I thought I smelled something.

worst computer day of my life. and i have had some seriously hell fire days on windows.

so i blew up the boards on both OMG!!! can i replace the boards ? : /

please help , thank you : )

It seems that WD black drives post 2008, each have a uniquely programmed 8 leg surface mount ROM on the circuit board. So i have emailed WD; and a few other uk companies to see if they will transplant the rom's to new PCB's for the two drives.

Nothing else i can do really , i could buy a heat gun , but it seems risky.

unreal. first my drives start failing, sectors and such, i buy nice new Black drives , then blow them up. hahaha it so funny. .... life is so funny.

The following PCB suppliers include such a service for free:

http://www.onepcbsolution.com/
http://www.hdd-parts.com/

The former will also copy the flash memory to your own donor PCB for $20.
