SATA WD 500GB HDD in MWDMA2 mode

May 12th, 2014, 22:31

Hi, I disassembled my old DirecTV receiver which resulted to have a WD GreenPower 500GB HDD. It had PUIS enabled which I disabled with HDAT2. Now my only "problem" is that the HDD appears to be be in PATA mode. Though next to the HDD in HDAT2 is says PATA and it has next to it a yellow exclamation mark which down it says in yellow "!ATA_MODE: MWDMA2 [max. UDMA6/ATA133]". I would like to get it into SATA mode, is that possible using HDAT2? I'll attach some photos. Thanks

Is the SATA controller configured in BIOS for IDE compatibility mode?

Its in legacy mode I think. But the HDD is soft configured as IDE because DirecTV although it has SATA interface it configured to work as IDE. But can't find the option to change it from IDE to SATA. Thanks

I think your problem will be resolved if you set your BIOS configuration to AHCI mode. It's the SATA controller that emulates IDE mode, not the drive.
