Problem with headstack change on Fujitsu 2.5''harddrive

August 2nd, 2014, 8:05

Dear all,

this is my very first post there!
My problem it's that i friend of mine got a problem with his harddisk.
Basically there is no way to read into this one...After few check (we have already mark this hard drive as "dead") I have decided
to change the headstack.

All the process look go pretty straight forward, without any problem to unload the old headstack and mount the new one.

But on computer idle i have the following strange stuff of the headstack:

Have you any idea of what could be? It's possibile that the headstack can't pick the parking zone?

Let me know.

Other hd info are:

Fujitsu 100GB 2.5'' hard drive IDE
Model MHV2100AT PL

Let me know.
Thank's in advance.

p.s. The harddrive not contain enterprise data, so is not plausbile spent few 1000/2000$ with a specialized company in order to bring the data back:-)

Looks like one of the heads might be damaged preventing the drive from reading the drive information. The head stack might need to be replaced, but there could be other problems too.

It was not a good idea to open the drive without a proper diagnosis.
I just repaired a Fujitsu drive MHS2020AT that was clicking a lot as your drive, problem was a firmware issue.

The drive clicked for about 5 minutes since power on, then it was detect but very very slowly.
To fix it i did translator regeneration in pc3000 and repaired bad FA + WE mods, now it's detect right away when i power on and with good speed.

What i want to say is it could be possible that you will not solve the problem by changing heads, however heads swap have to be done in clean environment.

Problem is that he already opened the drive, also it has been powered on it without the cover. :?
Can't work on firmware without proper tools as PC3000 or HD Doctor, this tools are expensive
