HDD Seagate 2000 GB Barracuda clicking head go back and fort

August 5th, 2014, 20:19

Hello guys,

I have a problem with my HDD Seagate 2000 GB Barracuda:
Classic clicking sound.
The heads are going back and forth and the HDD does not show up anywhere.

Here is the open HDD

I know there are professionals, clean room, etc... but I would like to repair it by myself.
I need your opinions regarding the dysfunction:
The head is not stuck, the platter is not damaged, motor sounds good too.
What do you think? :??:

I just need opinions about the problem to have a proper diagnostic and take the adequate measures.
And what I should do to just recover data.

I am looking forward your recommendations :)

Thank you all!

All the best

You need a clean room and proper tools and specially a right amount of knowledge and experience to do that. Better send it to the pros. Unless, your data on that drive is not much of importance then you can do your own experiments.

Dear Kini,

it was not good idea to open drive.
If your data are valuable, send it to pro.

otherwise try to blow any dust from drive and close it and post terminal output. You will need TTL adapter. Search on forum for TTL and terminal output.
You can use some terminal software like telnet, or you can use SeDiv http://sediv2008.narod.ru/Easy3.9Passwo ... 567890.rar password 01234567890

Well everyone wants to have the best solution (recover data for free), but that is not always the story.

Your drive suffers from damaged heads (at least), it is one of the most difficult to recover, the spare parts compatibility is a huge question mark for the DR world (well, it was anyway  ), you opened your drive in your kitchen sink and you still want to recover it yourself.

I am very sorry, to me this is close to 0%.

I think you have Heads problems. this is not DIY work. you need donnor parts and skills.
As you openned the drive outside from clean room your success rate is very low.

if your daat is important contact wit a local Pro.

Yeah, heads and likely firmware will pose challenges. The more the drive is powered on, the less chances of recovery (considering it is not too late already).
