May need to look on DVD hack forums if the file format doesn't look standard

Otherwise you may need to install extra codecs on your pc

Hello,

This approach is very unlikely to work. Considering Sony's technological advancement and tendency to develop their own formats (like Memory Stick), I'd say there is a chance this DVR is different from the others, but this chance is very low – 1-3%.

Digital video recorder has to store recordings from multiple cameras, which are independent from each other, so generally video stored as a one continuous stream and it's format is at least vendor-modified.
No standards exist for manufacturers, so each DVR recovery is a manual data analysis + custom software development.

Hard drive format is not a good thing for sure, but we should be able to help recovering videos from this DVR remotely, even despite some of its "metadata" is lost. Please check your PM.
