Hello .
i have this Hitachi drive , client claims that his laptop is turned on 24/7 , and out of a sudden , blue screen of death appeared , and BIOS not recognizing the HDD any more .
conecting it to DDI will result with the following .
drive spins fine , no abnormal noises ,
registers go to DRDY and DSC
once i try to refresh the list of the drives to get the drive to identify , " drive not responding " and ERR register will turn on
suspecting BAD ROM ?
any hints would be appreciated

If drive spins up then the ROM is fine. High chance the PCB is fine too.

Hitachi drives puts itself "safe drdy" when no signal comes from HSA.
So my opinion is there are bad heads inside the hood...
