Hi Gurus.
I got a WD20EZRX-00D8PB0 Diablo3S family, 2TB HDD with burnt PCB. I have a donor with the same model and matchin PCB. Trying to rebuild ROM from SA Data. But cannot get into patient SA. even tried by buying two HDDs from same batch.
Unable to get the access to SA. Can't read Module Id 01 as well.
Its says "Device Error Detected"
Any Advice
Thanks

Yes i tried Hot swap as well it did not produce any positive results.
I have successfully been able to rebuild ROM in older versions.
Don't know its not working in this case.
Help appreciated.

What kind of damage did the PCB sustain? Is there a chip at U12?

Does the board look like this one?

Hello Fzabkar,
Thanks for your reply.
yes id does have U12, and off course i tried moving that onto donor PCB as in first place. But it is blown off can't even read by Reader. Its totally gone. That was the reason of trying to Rebuild ROM.
Any further assistance appreciated.
Thanks

Hello,
Could manage to get the access to SA area.
I assume To Rebuild ROM one needs Mod 102, 103, 105, 107 and 109
But in this model Mod 107 is not present. ( It has all except 107)
When i try to rebuild w/o it says " SELECTED SOURCE DOES NOT CONTAIN FLASH DIRECTORY IMAGE (OB)
Any suggestions please ?????
Thanks

That family is a pain if I remember correctly. I think what I finally did was put an isolator between the PCB and preamp, spun it up then waited for it to come ready before removing the piece of paper. Then I was able to get access to SA somehow (I forget the exact steps I used).

I think when the drive is initialized completely it locks out SA access. I've seen a few USB versions that do the same thing.

I suspect that the MODs will be empty (NOT INIT).

There are ways to reconstruct the ROM MODs from other SA MODs.

For example, MRT Lab can generate 30 (SA defect list) from 35, and 47 (adaptives) from 40.

However, the SA defect list is usually empty, so you might be able to use one from a donor. The head map (MOD 0A) could also be patched from a compatible donor with the same map. MOD 107 (ROM MOD 0B) can also be copied from a compatible donor. In fact the ROM image in MOD 109 should already have appropriate MOD 0B and 20B templates.

If you upload your drive's resources, perhaps someone could regenerate the ROM for you.
