I've removed the hard drive from my digital tv box but im struggling to wake it up. I have created a usb boot disk and placed hdat2 on it. This drive isnt showing in bios and the /w command doesnt wake it up. Its a sata so no jumpers.

Anyone any ideas?

I suspect that your drive may be "locked" in some way for DRM reasons.

Here is a thread where a WD drive was unlocked, but a Hitachi issue remained unresolved:
http://www.alexsoft.org/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=812

One thing you might like to try is to power up the drive in your DTV box, and then hotswap the SATA data cable with a cable connected to a PC motherboard. Hopefully HDAT2 should then be able to see the drive. You probably won't be able to circumvent the lock (if it exists), but hopefully you may be able to see something in the drive's feature set that sets it apart from normal models.
