In my opinion its PC3K with data extractor. The manuals that come with it are a good first step and cover a lot of general faults , but you REALLY need time and knowledge and experience to use it proper. Without it it can be very dangerous and you can easily kill the drive.

The most useful "tools" for repairing hard drives are experience and a systematic technical mindset. Without this, other tools easily become useless.

But I take it you are looking for a hw/sw tool for repairing drives? Then Acelab's PC3000 with DE option is generally considered the most mature product. Although the products from the guys at DolphinDataLab also deserves a mention. Especially for their technical support.

+++1 for PC-3000 with data extractor software addon is definitely the one tool to buy.

Just be prepared that there's no push button repair solution for data recovery. As Eleg alluded to, you'll need to put in the years of learning the trade. It's not easy and might take over your life (just a warning).

My advice (if you're serious about getting into this) is to buy PC-3000 w/ DE and then partner with someone who is willing to do remote work for you on it when you get stuck. That way you can learn by watching someone more experienced use it. PM me if you'd like suggestions of who to partner with.
