Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi All,
Regarding my Seagate Barracuda ST3000DM001 3TB SATA drive. It has Valuable data on it (storage only, not using nor never have used as a boot drive), installed it on my new setup and it worked for around 2 years before disappearing completely, without apparently any prompt/warning. My setup:
Asus P9X79 Deluxe Mobo
i7-3930K cpu
1 x DVDRW drive (sata)
1 x SSD 128gb drive (sata)
2 x Seagate Barracuda ST3000DM001 3TB SATA drive, one of which being the one in question
What i have done so far:
- changed SATA cable for a brand new one, no change
- changed mobo SATA port, no change
- unplugged all hard drives and optical drive except for SSD (OS) and the 3TB in question, no change
- BIOS > SATA configuration > drive not visible in list of drives
- computer management > disk management > drive not visible in list of drives
- partition wizard > drive not visible in that program
- Tried the Board of the identical other Seagate Barracuda ST3000DM001 on the one that is not working with no luck
Obviously i have my suspicion that this drive is faulty, which is strange because it isn't very old. maybe 2yrs maximum. This drive doesn't even show up, it's like it's not plugged in with a SATA cable at all (of course it is, i have checked this and as said above, tried brand new cable and different mobo ports with no effect).
opinions/suggestions most welcome. thanks

Update : now the Seagate Barracuda ST3000DM001 3TB SATA drive appears on BIOS , but the system hangs for about 5 minutes , then loads windows and it does not appear on windows , tried Hiren Boot CD , the Seagate drive is missing too.
Out of ideas , any help would be appreciated

Obtain a serial terminal log from the drive. It sounds like the drive may be struggling with bad heads or bad media.

I am sorry , but I am not familiar with this high tech repairing details, what exactly do you mean by "Obtain a serial terminal log from the drive"
and how can I do that.
Thanks in advance.

These drives are horrible for data recovery pros. It is best to get it them assessed before further damage is caused.

+1. Every time you power on that drive your chance of getting the data back drops.

Seagate is a nightmare for DR pro, good to know. At least i have experienced it with a 7200.12.

Not quite all Seagates. There are a couple of models standing out, including 7200.12. But more specifically, the OP's model is quite challenging especially when tampered with too much before getting in the right hands.
