Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hello everybody.
I got a Hard Disk from a PlayStation 3.
The HD is a Toshiba MK1255 GSX (ATA 160GB)
I would like to use this HD on my PC but I found out that this HD has a password in the firmware.
Is there anyone teaching me how to remove this password?
Obviously the data are not important.
I can use Ubuntu 14.04 or Windows XP or any live distro.
Thank you for your precious help

The PS3 system uses hardware encryption linked uniquely to each individual console. There is no way to access the data stored upon it.
But as far as a password in the firmware, there should be no security active and no ATA lock is present on any PS3 hard disk drives I have worked with.

Hi,
unfortunately the PS3 was died but I'm sure the hard disk is locked by a password.
If I try to boot from it an ATA hard disk password is required (10 digit long).
I tryed with a lot of free software but it doesn't work.
Do you think don't I have a way?
Thank you
Dario

The cost to remove the password will likely be greater than the cost to get another drive. You can surely get a 160GB drive on ebay for less than $50.

It's a 120gb

I've never used it but you might try "ZU" to unlock it.

Hello guys,
first of all thanks for your gracefull answers.
I know about the cost but it's a challenge (and zu betta doesn't work)
I think the only way is a specialized hardware
any suggestion will be apreciate

Se è bloccato da password potrei sbloccarlo io con MRT (è un tool hardware), ma ti costerebbe certamente più dell'acquisto di un nuovo drive da 160 GB quindi non conviene.
