Hi All,
I need some help figuring out what is wrong with my hard drive. There was no sound at all that could be heard when supplying power to it, so I figured I would replace the PCB. I found a donor drive with same model, part number, firmware number, first two lines of pcb matched, and I transferred the NVRAM (u5) and serial flash (u7) from my old pcb to the new one.

When putting the pcb back to my patient drive and supplying power, still no sounds can be heard. However, if I ONLY connect the pcb to the motor, I hear sounds when supplying power. After this, I tried the pcb on the donor drive and connected it properly and there was sound when supplying power (no clicking or anything).

So I can only guess my patient hard drive has something wrong with the connection that is being made on the bottom of the pcb. What component would be the problem, and would it be recoverable if I send to somewhere to be fixed?

Thank you!

Sounds like the pre-amp is shorted or dead.

Time to give it to a data recovery center unless you are able to change the head stack.
