Samsung HD154UI 12 clicks and dies

October 17th, 2014, 10:52

Hi to all!

I'd like to be here for good reasons, but unfortunately I'm not. My Samsung HD 154UI, where my family videos are stored just won't start.
Once I power up my computer, the HDD starts to spin up, very fast, and stays that way for about 4 second, then it starts to click, and gives always 12 clicks then it spins down and stays quiet, with no movement.

Can you help me pls?

Hi to all.

I won't give up so soon. I must correct my last statement. I don't have a PC3000 so I don't even know how to reach the terminal to obtain a log.
This happened yesterday, so I'm a totally noob here.

Of course, situation is not good, but I see only upper surface is damaged. I think, it's need to make diagonstic for other platters, because we keep hope for some result untill all system heads/surfaces are damaged.

Yeah, but SA location is scratched too.
If possible, it will take alot of donors/$$$$

We didn't see that :). System surface placed by 0, 1 and 2nd head (bottom part of platters stack). But I agree, case will be very hard (so can take several donors) or impossible.

Hi! Martin,

Do you think you could try to recover something from this drive. I'm only seeking for 50 to 60GB of information from those 1500GB.

To me this is FUBAR.

I know the situation looks very bad and I'm really f*cked about it. You guys don't imagine my family drama about this situation.
When it's lost, is lost, but until then the only thing I want is an expert who can take this as a real challenge, not just one more drive.

I would do it, if only I knew how and had the tools, because I would give it all, unfortunately I don't know how.

Even if you get to have the MC data from other surface, data is scattered where we don't know the status. (Oh, we all know how Sams work...)
It requires in any case donors, time, it is always a partial recovery that CAN or CANNOT contain the desired data and it would cost €€€€€ .
So said...

Hi, BlackST,

I've already got 4 HD154UI hdd which I believe that can be used as donors, and all I want is 50 to 60Gb of those 1500GB (we are talking about 3 to 5%). A committed expert, partial recovery and a lot of faith is what I need.

In my experience of this type of damage, it's usually a similar story for the other surfaces not just the top (visible) surface.

IMHO unrecoverable. :-(
