Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

When I was resetting Windows 8.1. there were 4 other hard drives in my PC. The OS came back OK< but all hard drives shown "Unallocated space". In disk manager I created a new simple volume, and I used EASE US to try to find the lost raw data. The software does not find anything. All files are family photos and documents. Any chance to be able to recover theM Thanks, Imre

There is a good chance to recover your files.
Stop working with those drives and creating new volumes.
You can make simple problem hard to recover.

I would examine your drives with a disc editor such as DMDE (freeware). Can you show us DMDE"s Partitions window?

Hi,
I left the drive with a data recovery company who promised free evaluation. I hope they tell me something tomorrow, and give back the disks. I will share with you what they have found, and then run the software you have recommended.
Thank you very much for helping me. Imre

My problem with this thread is the term "resetting Windows 8.1". What does that mean?
Also, when "creating a new simple volume", does this involve creating a new partition and then formatting it? If so, was it a full format, ie did it require several hours to complete?
Were the "4 other hard drives" in a RAID or a spanned/dynamic volume? Was EASEUS run against all 4 HDDs?
