Seagate ST2000DM001 issues

March 19th, 2015, 15:22

Started having issues with this drive a few days ago. It's not longer detected by Windows, I have done the following:
1. Tried 6 different SATA ports, cables.
2. Tried an external enclosure.

The drive spins up, makes no noises that would indicate some type of failure. Windows attempts to see the drive, and shows "Unknown Device" in Device Manager. I thinking that the board on the drive is probably bad. I'm out of ideas, the majority of the data was backed up, but I neglected to backup a directory or two that I'd like to recover from the drive.

What say you?

Care to elaborate a little on this? If I understand this correctly, with what I described in my first post, connecting it to a "terminal" won't help me any.

1) connect the HDD to terminal using TTL cable
2) power on the drive
3) see the log in terminal

a lot can be learned from the log
