Hi,

Just want to be sure of this PCB compatibility before a bios swap for a 500 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 drive, and hear about possible alternative --if any exists-- to soldering/unsoldering the BIOS chip or using a chip programmer.

Left is the drive with the defective PCB. Right is the donnor drive.
When only value is mentioned, it is the same for both drives.

Brand : Seagate
Serie : Barracuda 7200.11
Model : ST3500820AS
P/N : 9BX134-505 9BX134-511
Firmware : SD25 SD36
Date Code : 09215 08393
Site Code : KRATSG
PCB : 100466725 REV A DLAJ-4

Main chip from defective drive :
LSI TTB5501D
Seagate
0841T 1701717
35MM001
4082356

Main chip from donnor drive :
ST V523C
Seagate
DAZZ001TQ
9E745105
AA147
TW 99 807

My main concern is about the different main chips, as well as the different P/N suffixes. Should I care about them?

I also wonder if instead of unsoldering/resoldering the chip there is a chance to download the presumably older firmware and update the firmware using Seagate firmware update tool or other software. Something like WDR Demo, but with the possibility to write the firmware.

If there is a possibility to do it via the SATA interface, without having to connect to the 4 pins and type TTL commands it would be nice.

This could be done only from the new PCB still mounted on the donnor drive, which could then be transfered to the defective one. But maybe are some unique drive parameters stored in the BIOS chip, which would prevent a simple BIOS swap afterwards...

I unfortunately have not much hope in the defective PCB itself, as it is unable to make the motor spin.

Thanks.
