Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 does nothing more

Hi there,
I´m very new to this forum. I have read a lot but have a question about my problem. A few days ago I was working on some system trouble from last windows update. When I managed to solve the problem I made a backup from my "System" SSD to my "Data" HDD (this is my actual problem).

Backup was finished and verification starts, nearly at the end I got an error (possible read error). Sorry, but I didn´t read the error message correctly, but launched another backup. This comes only up to nearly 400 MB, then I got a CRC error.

I aborted the process an rebooted the machine. Then my Data HDD wasn´t recognized any more.

Today I tried it another time, but had no luck. The HDD makes no noise, no sound of the motor, nothing. The PCB board looks good, no damaged chips or something like this.

So, what can I do? Is it a good try to change the PCB? Sometimes I have read that it isn´t enough to change the PCB, that there are a "VRAM" that must be changed form one to the other PCB. What´s about this?

When in doubt you can send it to a professional data recovery service for inspection - that is, if you do have anything important stuffed on your drive.

You need to transfer U5 ("NVRAM"), or its contents, from patient to donor.

Thank you for your quick replies! I will look out to get another PCB/HDD.
How do you think is the probability that the PCB is the cause of the fault?
Is it the best way to try the PCB change at first?

Hello again!

I found some used HDD´s witch could match. In meantime I have read this article:

There they tell me, that it is possible, to change PCB´s on Hitachi HDD´s when
Model, P/N, MLC and the two first lines on the back sticker are the same. Even it should be possible without changeing any chips on the PCB´s.

Is this right? - In searching of donor HDD´s, I only asked about Model, first line on the back sticker, main controller chip and the board number. So on the found donor HDD´s the MLC is different, I don´t know about the second line on the back sticker.

I´m not good enough in soldering, so if it is possible, I would prefer a change without additional changing the chips.

You have to change the NVRAM chip on Hitachi drives, end of.
