This is supported by PC3K and should be able to map head AFAIK. DDI?

I have a new ST1000DM003-1ER162. Client bought this drive to write recovered data on it and replace failed drive. I tried to access SA in pc3000, but no luck: access to SA is blocked. COMPULAB's drive may also have it blocked. A feature for newer drives from seagate.

From what I've heard there are actually two DM model families, one of which PC-3000 can't interface with at all. I guess they changed the vendor specific commands completely.
Probably a new effort to push their own data recovery service (only ones who will know the commands). So now they can sell you the crap drive that will fail, and the data recovery service to go with it. It's what we Americans call double dipping.

Yep, 1ER162 drives are firmware locked so it's not possible to work on this until someone finds how.
I was able only to read ROM on this drive (which is 1 MB big) via serial boot code.

Michael Chiklis is Correct here mine is 1ER162 drive and is FW Locked.
After reading above statements i think there is no solution for this problem.
Hope some one comes with solution soon. Else its going to be tough to work on these drives.
If anyone has a solution please post it here or PM.
Thanks

Hi
Its easy to unlock seagate Blocked firmware to regenerate translator and firmware copy.
You need to short two points in the pcb, some model need to change flag from RAM, after that you will get access to drives firmware and all terminal commands, like m0,6,2,,,,,22 and gain access to firmware by system files.

Hello Waqas Ali
I may be Wrong here but i think you are refering to TERMINAL Lock Situation and to gain access to SA.
I am getting Terminal access and have no problem in there.
But in this case access to Firmware is totally locked.
i just want to Map the heads in DE
Any suggestions here

On this drive we have access to terminal, but it doesn't respond to any inserted command.
This are new Seagate drives produced since July 2014 and this is totaly different situation compared with old seagate drives with locked terminal, so it's not possible to unlock by shorting points.
PCBs of this new drives have number 100724095 which have different shape from previous pcb drives.
I dumped rom from one of this new drive via serial boot code, it's 1 MB big:
Open the rom with an hex editor and go to 0x000ACEC8. You will see code 07052014 (which should mean 5th July 2014)

And the manufacturers begin to fight back.....

I agree that its Likely they are fighting back against the NSA spyware vulnerability that modifies firmware. Seems like a logical reaction but will have a major impact on the DR community.

waqas_ali766, Have you tried that on seagates made last summer and later? Client took their data and I do not have ST1000DM003-1ER162 anymore.

Hi,
i recently researched these (1ER...) and the Lombard drives which also have their terminals locked, and came up with an unlock solution...
Two in fact.

Are you going to share them with us Pepe

yeah, it involves a couple of tricks.
It is very easy once u know how to do it. But to get there....

ROMs are signed with 2048-bit RSA, which isn't totally lame protection from patching.
