WD20EARX-008FB0 - spinning up normally - not BIOS recognized

August 21st, 2015, 7:29

Dear experts,
WD20EARX-008FB0 - spinning up normally - not BIOS recognized
pictures attached.
Any recommendations what I can do in this case? Swap PCB? Is there a special firmware hack?
Greetings
Benjamin

99.9% not PCB.

Will almost certainly be a firmware problem requiring special (non-free) tools to fix.

Not DIY :-(

+1

if drive is spinning fine, it is very unlikely a pcb issue.

Could also be weak or a bad head on top of FW problem.

more then likely degrading head had overflown the Relo-List. I use PC3K to deal with this stuff, but I do recall someone had posted a link on here to a technique that could be used to clear out module 32 without specialized tools. But if the head is weak, you are not gonna get far without headmapping.

Hello guys,
thanks for your replies so far. I have an USB to TTL (CP2102) adapter an a tool wdmarvel which could do the job with the Relo-list. Actually I'm very new to this area of data recovery and I need help. Payment should be no problem.

Okay... when you say this DIY solution is crap then I'm willing to pay something... but PC3000 and MRT are way to expensive right now...
USB to TTL CP2102

I have no other option.. either I do it with the tools above... or maybe you have a tool which is not 3000+ or I'll send it to an expert. But the thing is I want to become an expert. ;-)

Which DIY solution would that be?
